Mary Bachman DeSilva, ScD, MS, MSFS.

Dr. DeSilva is an epidemiologist and demographer with expertise in design, implementation, and analysis of mixed methods public health research, with over 25 years鈥 experience with a variety of public health and development projects in global and U.S. settings. Her past work has focused on orphans and vulnerable children; social and economic effects of HIV/AIDS and antiretroviral treatment; medication adherence interventions for chronic conditions; and adolescent mental health and stigma. She leads UNE鈥檚 new Center for Healthy Aging and is the Principal Investigator of the Legacy Scholars project, an ongoing longitudinal cohort of ~750 older adults living in Maine who complete annual surveys on health and wellbeing, including cognitive assessments. Recently she assumed leadership of AgingME, Maine鈥檚 HRSA-funded Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) as Program Director. She has particular interests in a lifespan approach to public health and aging, caregiver/care partner wellbeing, and how aging issues affect Maine鈥檚 rural and other underserved communities. Other research interests include adolescent health, immigrant and refugee health, and chronic and mental health issues in these population groups. Dr. DeSilva came to 51小黄车in 2016 from the Boston University School of Public Health.
